Don’t forget to read the June magazine! It’s hard to believe that it’s already almost summer! Has it really been so long since COVID-19 knocked us all for a loop? We’re super excited about this magazine issue because we have such a wide range of topics, some of which we’ve never talked about before. We dove into wholesaling, ageism in the business world, and interesting topics like whether or not a 4-day workweek is more productive than a 5-day (or a 7-day if you’re an entrepreneur.. ha!). Enjoy!!
“I don’t think about ageism at all anymore all because I’ve taken control of my own destiny.” – JoAnn
JoAnn wanted to talk about something that absolutely needs to be addressed more often: ageism. We live in a culture that currently seems to only value the young. When JoAnn ended up being laid off in her 60’s she was unable to find a new position in the fashion industry and her age seemed to be a big barrier. So, she re-invented herself and used her many skills to start her own business, which she’s thrilled about! Everyone, at all ages, is full of creative potential! As JoAnn says, “I believe everyone has the gift to create.”
“I believe everyone has a gift to create, whether it be an item or concept to sell or expertise in a business that would be useful to others. I feel that anyone experiencing ageism (which will always be there lurking in the corner of the business world) should embrace the opportunity to reinvent themselves if need be.”

“Selling wholesale was never on my radar and honestly felt so overwhelming that I had no interest…” -Kaelin
Kaelin started her business screen printing and selling everything at retail prices online and at craft fairs. At the time, she never saw herself going into wholesale because she had no idea how to go about it (most of us probably feel that way!). But with some help from a store owner, she dipped her toe in and now she generates around $750,000/year AND she teaches other sellers how to do it as well.
P.S. She still has her Etsy shop with retail products and which has made over 17,000 sales. So cool!
“Many of my artists and maker friends shied away from the idea of wholesale because they worry about giving away half their profits. The truth is, when your products are priced appropriately, you can generate more revenue through wholesaling.”
– Kaelin Tillery @countercouture
“COVID Helped Me Realize My Dream” – Chrissey
Chrissey was laid off at the start of COVID-19 with no financial aid, so she learned to sew and that resulted in getting 100 sales a day!
“Before covid, I was building my career in the hospitality industry. I knew that my passion for it was fading, but I couldn’t t admit it because of the pressure from my family and myself. I spent 5 years studying the industry, got the degree, and now I’m saying that I don’t want to pursue it anymore. It was kind of hard. I was struggling to figure out what I truly wanted to do.”
