What should you be considering for your product lines or marketing this year? How do you stay on top of an ever-changing consumer market? One tool we believe you should be using is the Pinterest trends report. Last year in the magazine, we introduced you to the Pinterest Trends report. In December Pinterest released their predictions for 2024. These trends are identified based on searches on Pinterest.
We strongly encourage you to read the full report as part of your market research for this year. The trends report has been 80 percent accurate over the last four years in identifying trends. What Pinterest does NOT tell you is the actual count of searches- they share the percentage changes. What you are seeing in the report is a percent increase, not the actual number of searches. Since these trends are highlighted, Pinterest is seeing enough data to believe the trends represent what the consumer wants. A registered Pinterest account is all you need to get started with this report.
The report itself can be accessed in two different ways. You can explore and navigate via a set of images on their site, or you can download the report.
Navigating the report is both visually pleasing and easy. The report itself is interactive, and we’ve included a few images to show you how it looks.
Here are some examples of the kind of information you can expect to see for each area of the report.
Pinterest also uses the report to boost interest in shopping for trends, or for advertising for products that meet those trends.
Here are some themes that caught our eye in the recently released report. These are trends that we believe artisan businesses can capitalize on in the coming year. We’ve also added some ideas to consider on how to leverage these trends for your business.

We’ve now moved from the shower ritual to the post-shower ritual. Consumers are also interested in creating luxurious experiences in the comfort of their homes. Building on the shower care ritual to create complete spa packages to complete the spa experience could be a great opportunity here.
Here are the growing search terms:

Give a Scrap
Let’s face it- during the pandemic years, many of us bought a lot of stuff. Our craft supply closets/rooms were overflowing! And after a few years of rampant inflation, many consumers want to make the most of what they have already purchased. It’s the 3 R’s applied to hobbies- reduce, reuse, recycle. We see real opportunities here for pattern designers and other creatives who can sell how to utilize the leftovers. Or at a minimum, some of these ideas could provide great lead magnets to draw in new customers. Here are the search term increases:

“Discard recipes” +165%
“Craft work with waste material” +140%
“Zero waste sewing patterns” +80%

This trend ranges from Gen Z through to Boomers and is really about expressing unique style. Some of the kinds of items that may work for this trend are items that help customers customize their clothing to express their unique styles. Iron-ons, decorations, and the like help the customer create their unique look. Here are the terms for this trend:
“Customised denim jacket” +355%
