The January magazine is live and it’s a brand new year! Last month we dug deep into marketing tactics that can help you in 2022, and this month we’re focused on sharing stories from handmade sellers who have made big changes to their business. Our main featured seller completely automated her business when she started selling digital products and our second featured seller is leaving a high-profile job to become a full-time artist. So inspiring! We have lots of other great business topics for you as well, such as how to take stunning pictures on your phone with a few free apps. Enjoy!!

Our First Featured Story: Selling Digital Products
We met Deb when she filled out our featured seller application and mentioned how much she loved her new business model. She began selling her knit accessories back in 2009 and then later realized that selling her patterns, rather than her artwork, completely automated the sales process. No inventory and no shipping.
“My friend told me, “Deb, it’s time to use your analytical brain and begin to design. Offer digital downloads. Work once and get paid over and over again.”
– Deb Buckingham @knitondesigns
Our Second Featured Story: Going Full Time as an Artist
Soo filled our featured seller application and told us that she was leaving her job at Revlon to become a full-time artist. And of course, we wanted to hear all about the process, how she feels, and what her future plans are. It’s so inspiring to see artists pursuing their dreams!
“My dream was to become a creative director at a Fortune 500 company where I would be able to create beautiful campaigns. However, as I slowly climbed up the ladder in corporate, I realized how painful it was. I learned that just being creative doesn’t provide you happiness and wealth. Every time I developed a campaign, I was knocked down by having to make over 50 revisions”
– Soo Kim @soosoostudios
Our Third Featured Story: Thriving During Covid
Elyce was interviewed by Jackie Rupp about her business survived Covid, even though she hadn’t been advertising her website or products before the pandemic hit. All of her income came from local events, which were canceled. She has some great tips for other sellers, including a source where you can get a free business mentor!
“Prior to Covid, I wasn’t emphasizing the website opportunities, and did not advertise our products.”
– Elyce Zahn @cocotutti
